American flautist Karen Bergquist Lüth, herself living ‘Where Foreign Worlds Meet’ for over ten years in Germany, is the curator of this concert series for the Church of St Thomas Becket. Following Bachelor’s and Master’s studies in Flute Performance, Karen did her PhD work in Musicology at Stanford University. A performer equally at home in early and modern music styles, Karen has premiered numerous new compositions in close collaboration with composers as part of the Ultraschall Festival für Neue Musik Berlin, the Darmstadt Ferienkurse für Neue Musik, and at Stanford University’s Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA), and has performed extensively in the US and Europe on both modern and baroque flute. Karen’s main teachers have included Robert Claire of the acclaimed baroque ensemble, Les Arts Florissants, Samuel Baron of the Julliard School, and Walfrid Kujala of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
