Have you also noticed that many successful Baroque composers who made their careers in England were actually foreigners?

Eighteenth-century London, with its unique free-market concert landscape, was the city of endless possibilities for musicians of continental Europe’s more restrictive courts. The paying London audiences welcomed innovative and talented musicians, regardless of their nationality. The ‘English’ works by French, Italian and German composers on this programme span a period of almost 100 years (1685-1774) and demonstrate the considerable attraction that Baroque London had for non-British composers.

For over fifteen years Ensemble La Ricordanza has thrilled concertgoers and CD aficionados alike in Europe and around the world, with their energetic and many-faceted performances. The critics have been uniformly enthusiastic in their praise of the group: “with enthusiasm, accuracy and joi de vivre” “… a playful ensemble of connoisseurs and hedonists”, “…baroque music, fresher than ever”. True to their name “ricordanza” –“remembrance”, the members of La Ricordanza dedicate themselves to unearthing forgotten treasures of the baroque and classical eras, which they imbue with new life and freshness.
